Auction Rules
The Silent Auction
A bid sheet accompanies each of the items displayed on the tables. Write your bid number and bid amount on as many bid sheets as you like. Please read item specifications and restrictions carefully. Revisit each item frequently to raise your bid.
The silent auction tables will close at 7:15 p.m. The highest bid at closing time is the winning bid. If you and another bidder are bidding on the same item when the auction is closing, a table monitor will ask each of you to write your final bid on a sheet of paper as a "Bid Challenge." The person with the highest bid will win the item. The Auction Chair may move any item to the live auction just prior to the closing of the silent auction.
Buy it Now
Just like eBay, if you find a Silent Auction item with a "buy it now" number, you can assure yourself the pleasure of acquiring that item by entering your name and bid number next to the "buy it now" price. Table monitors will be moving about the silent auction closing auction lots with "buy it now" entries.
The Big Board
Big boards are large boards featuring special auction items that will be prominently displayed during the silent auction. This year there will be two big boards, one for le voyage et le grand partis and the other for le grand vin. Place bids as usual on the appropriate bid sheets. Top bids will be displayed for all to see! These boards will close at 7:30 p.m., just after the silent auction.
The Live Auction
The auctioneer has the authority to determine and set bidding minimums and increments on each item. To bid, raise your paddle in the direction of the auctioneer or one of the spotters. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer is the purchaser. On the fall of the auctioneer's hammer, title of the item passes on to the acknowledged bidder, together with full risk and responsibility for the item. In the event of a dispute, the auctioneer has the sole and final authority to determine a successful bidder or to re-offer and resell the item. Once the live auction begins, it will continue without interruption until the last item is auctioned.
How to Pay for Auction Purchases
Top bidders for both silent and live auction items are welcome to pay at any time during the evening. The cashiers will have a tally of all purchases approximately fifteen minutes after the close of the live auction.
